INTERNATIONAL FUTURES | IF

A “diplomatic trip around the world”:

The programme of INTERNATIONAL FUTURES (IF) is targeted both at diplomats and young leaders with a focus on sustainable development. Participants come from governmental institutions, think tanks and research institutions as well as civil society and business organizations from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, or Germany and the EU. IF aims to consciously build networks between change makers in the spheres of diplomacy, academia, politics and civil society, and to contribute to the creation a global community of responsibility and leadership. It does so in combination with an in-depth investigation of a topical issue area: Digitalisation and Sustainable Development.

Digitalisation and Sustainable Development
Defining elements of INTERNATIONAL FUTURES are international policy dialogues on current global challenges, the digital era, foreign policies of participating countries, along with a workshop dedicated to negotiation training. In the field of digitalisation, participants will engage in panel discussions, interactive workshops, and simulation games centred on the potentials and risks of artificial intelligence, the impact of social media, big data and digital platforms, challenges associated with inclusive digitalization as well as the digital agenda for global governance. These focus areas are complemented by a visiting and cultural programme in Berlin, featuring visits to political institutions and museums. The programme design ensures a variety of perspectives and methods, ranging from discussion panels and interactive workshops to informal background conversations and networking events.

Networks

INTERNATIONAL FUTURES is an integral element of the Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy, the training and dialogue format for young leaders of the MGG programme, implemented by the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). MGG is mainly funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). As a special format offered in close collaboration with the German Federal Foreign Office through its Diplomacy by Networking programme, IF exemplifies how different ministries within the German government are jointly supporting global dialogue.
